To learn more about my experience working with individuals with traumatic histories please read a little about me.
Traumatic experiences often involve a threat to life or safety, but any situation that leaves you feeling overwhelmed and alone can be traumatic, even if it doesn’t involve physical harm. Your subjective emotional experience of the event is what determines whether an event is traumatic. The more frightened and helpless you feel, the more likely you are to be traumatized.
Emotional and psychological trauma is the result of extraordinarily stressful events that shatter your sense of security, making you feel helpless and vulnerable in a dangerous world.

Research has found that childhood trauma increases the risk of future trauma. A study known as the Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE) Study was created and conducted to assess associations between childhood maltreatment and later-life health and well-being. The categories of the assessment cover abuse (emotional, physical, sexual), neglect (emotional, physical), and household dysfunction (parental separation or divorce, violence against mother figure, substance abuse, family mental illness, incarcerated household member).
A tool was created to assess for an ACE score, and knowing this score can aid in treatment and overall care. I may use this tool in session as a way for us to gain more knowledge about you as a whole and so we can use that knowledge to help guide your treatment towards healing.
